Wheatgrass Clementine Carrot Juice


Happy New Year!  Happy Makar Sankranti, Lohri, and Pongal.  Wishing that you always soar high just like the kites in the sky!

Starting the new year with some refreshing, rich in nutrients & taste recipes, that help rejuvenate mind, body, and soul.  

I had been meaning to try to grow wheatgrass and make juice out of it.  I finally did and am so glad about it.  I think I am hooked on to the juice, and growing wheatgrass is much fun as well!  It is a taste that I cannot really describe. I found the combination very yummy.  You have to try it yourself to find out.  This juice is loaded with rich nutrients, and is a energy booster. Growing wheatgrass was a fun experiment!  Try it out for yourself.  

I have listed some of multifold benefits of wheatgrass at the end of this post.  There are so many more.  


Recipe for the Juice:

Wheatgrass - chopped off from one 4*4 inch container
Clementines - 7
Carrots - 4
Ginger - 1 inch piece
  • Peel clementines, chop off the carrot ends.  Chop off the wheatgrass, wash it. 
  • Juice all of the above in a juicer.  I used Omega J8006 juicer.  
  • Once you have run all of the ingredients in the juicer, add water to the pulp and run it one more time. 
  • Adding salt and pepper is optional.

Recipe for growing wheatgrass:

Organic Wheatberries (soft) - 1 cup (I bought it from Wholefoods store).  Other wheat types would also work.
Soil - As required
Water - As required

There are various different ways to grow wheatgrass.  This is the one I tried this time. I will try other ways soon and update the post if those are better/easier ways.  It can be grown without soil as well.  
  • Take small containers or one big tray, fill it with thin layer of soil.   Scatter wheatberries, making a thin layer.  
  • Finish it with a very thin layer of soil on top of it, and water it.  This can be kept indoors or outdoors, with exposure to little sunlight.
  • Water it once or twice a day.  In about a week, the wheatgrass would be ready to use.  Chop it off with scissors, wash it, use it in juice. 
Note:  I tried the pre-soaking method too.  I am sure that works well.  Only thing I couldn't find out the result of my first 2 trials as, as soon as I planted the wheatberries, the squirrels made a feast out of every single grain of wheat :)  I was happy for their feast.  The third time around, I covered the containers with big sieve.  


Benefits of wheatgrass:
